Why this matters more than you think

An internet outage or a slow connection can cost you a 3-star review. And you know how it works: a bad review can sink your Airbnb ranking for weeks.

Isolated mountain house

4G router with external antenna. You can buy directional antennas for 40-80 euros to amplify the signal. As a last resort: satellite internet like Starlink (about 40 euros/month plus 350 euros initial kit).

The backup plan almost no one has

Even with fiber, consider having a 4G backup router. Why?

Fiber outages happen. And always at the worst moment: Saturday night, with the house full, and technicians don’t come until Monday.

Common internet mistakes

1. Contracting the cheapest plan without checking coverage

Digi offers great prices but not all addresses have real coverage. Verify first.

2. Not protecting the WiFi password

Each guest should receive the password but change it once a year. Don’t make it visible in a note like "WiFi: 12345678". Include it in the welcome manual.

3. Hiding the router behind the TV furniture

Kills the signal. Place it in a central, elevated spot without obstacles.

4. Not testing the speed after installation

Run tests in different rooms. Free tools like fast.com or speedtest.net. If the back bathroom has less than 10 Mbps, you have a problem.

5. Not listing WiFi in the ad

Many guests filter by homes with WiFi. If you have 500 Mbps, mention it. It’s a selling point.

You have to do it yourself. The internet contract will be in the name of the property owner or manager. The cost is included in your nightly rate.

How much speed do I need for 6 people to use the internet at the same time?

Calculate about 25-50 Mbps per person if they’re streaming. For 6 people with mixed use (Netflix, social media, video calls), 200 Mbps is enough. With 300-600 Mbps, you’re more than covered.

Is 5G worth it if I already have fiber?

As a backup, yes, although cheaper options exist (a 4G router with prepaid SIM). As a main connection, only if your fiber is very slow or unstable.
