SES Hospedajes not working: what to do so you don't miss the deadline
If the portal is down you are still required to submit the data, but the deadline is 24 hours from check-in: save a screenshot of the error with date and time, collect the guest's data anyway and resend as soon as it's back. Autoregistro submits via web service, not the portal, and retries on its own if SES fails.

The most common SES Hospedajes failures
The portal doesn't load or is under maintenance
Outages and micro-cuts from traffic peaks, especially in high season and late afternoon. The site doesn't respond or stays blank.
Error 401 when submitting from an app
Not an outage: the web service rejected the credentials. Almost always the web-service username or password, or the web-service submission box not being ticked.
The digital certificate doesn't validate
Expired certificate, browser without Autofirma or Cl@ve not responding. The portal is fine, but you can't get in.
Submission rejected with a generic error
A malformed field (support number, date, country code) returns an error that explains nothing. It looks like SES is down, but it's the report.
What to do, step by step
1. Find where it fails
Try logging into the portal with username and password. If you get in, the failure is your certificate or your app (error 401). If it doesn't load at all, it's an outage.
2. Save proof of the failure
A full screenshot with the error, date and time visible. It's your evidence that you tried to comply within the deadline.
3. Collect and sign the data anyway
Ask guests for their data and signature (paper form, PDF or your app's check-in link). Without data there's no report to resend.
4. Retry and submit as soon as it's back
Within 24 hours if possible; if SES stays down, as soon as it's restored, keeping the proof of the attempt.
How Autoregistro avoids it
Web-service submission
It doesn't use the portal: if the website is down but the web service responds, your reports go out anyway.
Automatic retries
If SES doesn't respond, it retries three times on the spot and then once a day for three days. You do nothing.
Status of every report
In your dashboard you see what was sent, what's pending and what failed, with the reason. It doubles as a record of the attempt.
Data collected beforehand
The guest fills in their form before arriving, so when SES is back the report is already ready.
If SES fails: by hand versus with Autoregistro
| By hand on the portal | With Autoregistro | |
|---|---|---|
| What happens when the portal goes down | You wait and try again yourself | Submission goes via web service and retries on its own |
| Who tracks the 24-hour deadline | You, booking by booking | The dashboard flags pending and failed reports |
| Proof of the attempt | Screenshots | Submission and retry history per report |
| Guest data | You ask for it when SES is back | Already there: the guest filled it in via link |
| Error 401 | N/A (you don't use the web service) | Detected when testing the connection in settings |

Questions about SES Hospedajes being down
What do I do if SES Hospedajes isn't working?
Save a screenshot of the error with date and time, collect your guests' data and signature anyway, and resend the report as soon as the portal is back, within 24 hours if possible. The obligation doesn't disappear because of the outage; the proof of the attempt is what protects you.
Can I be fined if SES Hospedajes is down?
The obligation still stands, but submitting late is a minor offence (€100 to €600), not a serious one (€601 to €30,000, which is not submitting). With the screenshot of the failure and submission as soon as it's restored, the delay is justified. We're not lawyers: if inspected, consult one.
What does error 401 mean in SES Hospedajes?
That the web service rejected your credentials. It's not an outage: check that the box "Envío de comunicaciones por servicio web" is ticked in your registered data and that the username (your tax ID ending in WS) and web-service password match what you entered in the app.
Can I send the report by email if the portal isn't working?
No. The communication only counts via the SES Hospedajes portal or web service (or the Mossos d'Esquadra and Ertzaintza systems in Catalonia and the Basque Country). An email doesn't count as a submitted report.
Does Autoregistro work if SES Hospedajes is down?
Autoregistro submits via web service, not the portal website, so many portal outages don't affect it. If the web service doesn't respond either, it retries three times on the spot and then once a day for three days, and alerts you if the error is permanent. You see each report's status in your dashboard.
How do I know whether it's my certificate or the portal?
Log in with username and password (the credentials the Ministry emailed you at registration). If you get in, the portal works and the problem is your certificate or Autofirma. If the site doesn't load at all, it's an outage.
How much does Autoregistro cost?
€1/month per property (plus VAT), automatic retries included, no minimums and no lock-in. 3 weeks free, no card.
If the error is 401, it's almost always the web-service username or password.
